How Thumio works

Thumio turns a video idea into a finished YouTube thumbnail in three moves: describe the idea, explore concepts, then refine and download. Here is what each step looks like today in the free maker, and what our AI will add.

What happens to your images

The maker, preview tool and resizer run entirely in your browser. When you add a photo, your device reads it, draws it onto a canvas and exports the result. The file is never sent to Thumio, and it is released from memory when you remove it or close the tab.

When accounts and AI generation launch, some features will need to send images to a server for processing. We will explain exactly what is sent, why and for how long it is kept before those features go live. Read the privacy policy for details.

What Thumio will not do

  • Show predicted click-through rates or view counts that cannot be verified.
  • Pretend a simulated feed is real YouTube data.
  • Add watermarks to free exports.
  • Claim an AI feature works before it does.

Common questions

Do I need an account to use Thumio?

No. The maker, preview tool and resizer work without an account. Accounts are planned alongside the AI features, so you will be able to save projects and concepts.

Where are my images processed?

In your browser. The free tools read and draw images on your own device, and nothing you add to them is uploaded to Thumio.

What happens when the AI features launch?

You will be able to describe a video and receive editable concepts, use reference photos and ask for edits in plain language. This page will be updated as each feature ships.

How long does it take to make a thumbnail?

Starting from a template, most people have a finished, exported thumbnail within a few minutes.
